Is That Actually a Good Grocery Price?

Pick the food, type the price on the shelf, and enter the package weight. We'll compare it with our July 2026 research and show what your dollar buys. One package. Three fields. No spreadsheet cosplay in aisle seven.

Prices stay in this browser tab. Nothing you enter is saved or sent to us. Benchmarks are a July 2026 snapshot, not a promise that every store got the memo.

The cheaper buy

How can you tell if a grocery price is actually good?

A sale sticker can't answer that. Compare the price for the same amount of food, then check what one dollar buys. This tool uses the price-per-100-gram baselines from our 53-food fiber study and 49-food protein study. If your oats cost 25% more per 100 grams than the package recorded in our snapshot, the yellow tag is mostly theater.

What do the July 2026 grocery benchmarks include?

The research covers dried beans, grains, canned foods, produce, dairy, meat, fish, and other common groceries. We recorded package price, package weight, edible yield where it mattered, and nutrient data. You can see every assumption in our methodology. Prices move by store and ZIP code, so treat the result as a useful reference point, not a stone tablet from Walmart.

Why compare fiber and protein per dollar?

Two foods can have similar sticker prices and buy very different amounts of food value. The nutrient-per-dollar card translates your current price using the same food data as the original study. It doesn't declare one food morally superior to another. It just shows the arithmetic, which is already doing enough judging.

Frequently asked questions

How does the grocery price benchmark work?

Choose a food and enter its current package price and weight. The tool compares your price per 100 grams with our published July 2026 snapshot.

Where do the benchmark prices come from?

They come from the 53-food fiber study and 49-food protein study published by Daily Life Hacks in July 2026, using documented Walmart and BLS price sources.

What does fiber or protein per dollar mean?

It estimates how many grams of the selected nutrient one dollar buys at your entered price, using the same food data and edible-yield assumptions as our studies.

Does a good price mean I should buy the biggest package?

No. A low unit price loses its charm if half the package goes stale behind three jars of mustard.

Can I still compare two packages directly?

Yes. Open the two-package comparison below the benchmark to compare weight, volume, or count units.
