The Fiber per Dollar Calculator
Grocery shopping is a math problem you're doing in your head while your cart blocks aisle six. This tool does the math for you: real fiber numbers, real shelf prices, and a straight answer about which foods actually earn a spot in your cart. Compare any two foods, build a basket, or just snoop around the rankings.
What does your dollar buy?
Every food in the index, ranked. Tap a column header to sort. Set a weekly goal and the last column shows what hitting it would cost with each food alone.
| Food | Category | Fiber per $1 | Price / 100g | $ for your week |
|---|
Nothing matches that search. Even the beans came up empty.
Compare any two foods
Pick two, get a verdict. The daily value math uses 28g of fiber per day.
Build your basket
Add foods (the + button in the table works too), set how many dollars a week each one gets, and see what the whole basket delivers.
Your basket is empty. Bold strategy.
Where the numbers come from: fiber values from USDA FoodData Central, prices from Walmart shelf listings cross-checked against BLS average price data. The methodology, the caveats, and the full write-up live in the fiber per dollar study, and the raw CSV is public. This page reads that exact file live, so when the index updates, the calculator updates with it.
